| Description: Steve Lane, of Soliant Consulting, joined us for a presentation on the new FileMaker 9 feature, External SQL Sources. The presentation sparked a lively discussion, and the implications and limitations of the feature were enlightening. Among other things, the feature is NOT designed with the intent of creating a design path to allow FileMaker to serve as a front end to SQL sources exclusively (though with some awareness of feature constraints and modified expectations, this IS possible). FileMaker's design goals were to provide a FileMaker-flavored integration tool that works seamlessly with FileMaker's design tools. That said, this is a feature that we all will have opportunity to explore with future projects, and our thanks go out to Steve for providing such an excellent overview!
