PAUSE ON ERROR NY RECAP

Four members of PFUG trekked up to New York for Pause On Error this month to present, listen, discuss and debate. During this meeting we’ll share what we heard and learned, and share our thoughts.

Jason Mundok, Colin Keefe, Kevin Ayers and Dan Stein attended POE, and depending on who’s available we’ll see what we can glean from them.

We’ll also be giving away a door prize, courtesy of our User Group membership with PeachPit Press (it’s the one I forgot to give away last month).

Update from Jason Young on “What’s Faster?”

At last week’s meeting I presented some FileMaker performance analysis findings that were compiled by Jason Young, Mighty Data (Denver, CO). He had shared them during his session “What’s Faster?” at the recent PauseOnError unconference in Portland, OR a few weeks back. Jason sent a follow-up email about some of his findings and some tidbits he’s learned since Pause On Error, along with the slides from his presentation, which are attached here. If you weren’t at the meeting, check out the meeting video on an earlier post to gain some context for this update (fast forward to the 54:20 mark).

Five Minutes with Philly FileMaker: Pause On Error Portland

I was fortunate to attend day one of Pause on Error in Portland and had a chance to chat with John Sindelar (SeedCode) and Ernest Koe (Proof) about what it was like to organize Pause II. We debuted this interview at the Philadelphia FileMaker User Group meeting held at the IT Solutions office in Fort Washington.

Jason Mundok's DevCon 2009 Recap

I had an exceptionally great time at DevCon this year. Approximately 1,100 FileMaker enthusiasts gathered at the San Francisco Hilton, including Marc Adler and me representing IT Solutions. I stayed busy chatting with some of the top speakers for the new video interview series “Five Minutes with Philly FileMaker” and networking with as many new friends as possible, but I did manage to attend a handful of hand-picked sessions. Here’s a breakdown of what I witnessed!

Five Minutes with Philly FileMaker: Jason Mundok interviews Kirk Bowman

Kirk Bowman, Mighty Data, may have been the single busiest man I know at FileMaker DevCon this year. I caught up with Kirk in a dark hallway just minutes after an unconference session, where Kirk served on a discussion panel. We hope to have Kirk join us for a user group meeting at the IT Solutions office in the upcoming year.

Five Minutes with Philly FileMaker: Jason Mundok interviews Jesse Barnum

I had a few minutes to catch up with Jesse Barnum, 360 Works, on a very busy Saturday afternoon (8/15) of FileMaker DevCon 2009 in San Francisco. Jesse visited the Philly FileMaker User Group at the IT Solutions office this past spring.

pauseonerror: FileMaker UnConference in NYC, July 16-17

Just a quick mention of something very interesting going on up here in the Northeast US.  Andy Gaunt (FMPug), John Sindelar (SeedCode) and Ernest Koe (ProofGroup) have put together an informal, FREE FileMaker Unconference at the Ace Hotel in NYC, running two days, July 16-17.  Self-organizing, participant-driven tech conferences aren’t a new idea per se, but they are most definitely new to the FileMaker universe, and it’s brilliant of these guys to bring this to life.

We love that the FileMaker community has gotten to the point where things like this are springing out of the ground – proof of fertile soil, we say.  We’re going to try to make it up there for at least Thursday’s sessions.
