THE ITS NEW APP DEV OFFICE SPACE
For those of you who have come to many of our meetings, you know that when many people are in attendance, there’s spillover into the cubes and corridors – it can get cramped.
The App Dev Department at ITS has moved to a new, more spacious wing in the office, and we’ll be much more comfortable. Same address, just take a left instead of a right when you walk through the ITS doors. Come hang out in the new space!
About the Presenter
Dr. Jerry Salem began his career in technology as a computer science major, eventually moving to the biological sciences where he earned his Ph.D in Biochemistry. During that time he published papers on malaria, tuberculosis, and AIDS. He holds a U.S. patent and has spoken internationally on numerous topics.
As a researcher, Jerry learned computer networking, web design, and FileMaker. He has worked in various technology fields developing a number of solutions, including electronic medical records software and complex systems for many businesses and organizations. Along the way he has mastered standard SQL tools and a variety of other technologies.
Since 2007, Jerry has worked at IT Solutions, a Platinum level member of the FileMaker Business Alliance. Among his accomplishments since joining ITS are certification in FileMaker versions 8 through 11 and frequent contributions to the Philly FileMaker User Group.

Mainly this is an opportunity to wrap up the year with some good food, networking, and gossip. If you’ve never been to one of our meetings, this is a good time to start! We’d love to have you.

Working With and Extending the Starter Solutions

Managing FileMaker Software Projects: A Roundtable Discussion
One of the primary challenges for any FileMaker developer or development team is managing lifecycle of a development effort. Colin will share some “lessons learned” in the field, talk a bit about the iterative development process from a management perspective, and provide some suggestions for the solo developer who needs to self-manage projects. We’ll talk about burndown charts, work units and budgeting in a holistic way, with some practical examples.
We’ll then open the floor for a discussion of alternative ways of organizing efforts, and give folks an opportunity to share their experiences and war stories. Please bring your own thoughts and be prepared to talk!

2012 FileMaker DevCon Recap!
The sixteenth annual FileMaker Developer Convention was held in mid-June at the Hotel Fontainebleau in Miami Beach FL. We’ve just gotten back and can’t wait to share. We had a good showing of Philly FileMaker User Group members attending this year, so this ought to be a very lively session.
