USING FILEMAKER AS A SQL FRONT END
Presenter: Dan Stein
We all know that FileMaker server has its limitations when it comes to particularly large data sets, especially when there is a need for a heavily trafficked web component. We will talk about the process of taking a large complex FileMaker Solution and migrating 90% of the data to SQL and making FMP a front end to that SQL database. We will discuss the best tools to use in the process, as well as the pitfalls and gotchas that come up. This will be an audience participation process as we review the solution. Much of what we will uncover is useful to keep in mind when using ESS with FMP generally; other techniques we will discuss are unique to changing the referenced databases from FileMaker native table to ESS.
About the Speaker:
Dan Stein has been a FileMaker developer for almost 20 years. He runs his own business Digital Software Solutions, Inc. www.dss-db.com. DSS often works with other developers on larger projects and uses a team approach to development. Dan is also a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Volunteer EMT-B so he is able to handle any emergencies that may arise from the overwhelming impact of his presentations.
