Mark Your Calendar for an Exclusive FileMaker Seminar

August 6th, 9:30am at the Hub Cira Centre

At IT Solutions, we’ve been working on ways to help our clients make better use of their existing FileMaker systems for faster access to information, resulting in better data driven decisions. We’ve been helping clients utilize some of the exciting new features in FileMaker 10, but even if you’re using a previous version, there are still plenty of ways to maximize your data access efficiency. We’re eager to share this knowledge at an August 6th client seminar dedicated exclusively to working with FileMaker.

Better Data, Better Decisions with FileMaker will be an information-packed ½ day seminar at the new Hub Cira Centre, conveniently located right next to Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station. The keynote speaker for the August 6th session will be IT Solutions’ Certified FileMaker Developer/Trainer Jason Mundok and topics will include:

  • Using FileMaker 10 including dynamic reports, saved finds and what it takes to upgrade
  • File Server Integration that links FileMaker records to files and folders on your file server
  • Dashboards that bring business intelligence functions and techniques to FileMaker
  • Q&A time for all of your FileMaker inquiries

Better Data, Better Decisions with FileMaker will be held from 9:30 am to noon, with registration starting at 9:00 am, followed immediately by a Starr Events-catered buffet lunch at the Hub. Jason and fellow ITS FileMaker developers will be available during this time to answer additional questions and provide more details on any and all FileMaker topics. Space for the complimentary seminar is very limited so sign up as soon as possible to reserve your seat. For more information or to register, contact Jim Higgins or 215-886-7166 x 113.

We look forward to seeing you in August!

FileMaker DevCon Preview, FTS samples: FREE Webex webinars

Back in January when Matt O’Dell presented on the new release of FileMaker 10 at our user group meeting, we mentioned here that FileMaker provides online Webex seminars on all sorts of topics, for those who can’t make it to in-person trainings or meetings.  Partly that was because Matt brought a winter snowstorm with him and some people couldn’t brave the roads, but still – it’s a great training resource.

Since the FileMaker 2009 DevCon is now rapidly coming upon us, it seems like a good time to mention it again – especially since some of the webinar content is explicitly a DevCon Preview.

pauseonerror: FileMaker UnConference in NYC, July 16-17

Just a quick mention of something very interesting going on up here in the Northeast US.  Andy Gaunt (FMPug), John Sindelar (SeedCode) and Ernest Koe (ProofGroup) have put together an informal, FREE FileMaker Unconference at the Ace Hotel in NYC, running two days, July 16-17.  Self-organizing, participant-driven tech conferences aren’t a new idea per se, but they are most definitely new to the FileMaker universe, and it’s brilliant of these guys to bring this to life.

We love that the FileMaker community has gotten to the point where things like this are springing out of the ground – proof of fertile soil, we say.  We’re going to try to make it up there for at least Thursday’s sessions.

Two sets of summary data, One report

By Jerry Salem

I was working on a project for a client recently.  They were replacing an old system with a new one built using Filemaker 9.   The system is a standard client, invoice database.  One of the reports requested was a summary of sales.  The report presents sales summarized by product type, in addition sales sumarized by product location.  It was presented as a nice one page summary to ‘the boss’ weekly.

Thanks to Tony Celini; Design Critique and Discussion next meeting!

We’d like to thank Tony Celini of CAB Inc. for presenting at Tuesday’s meeting.

24 group members came by to listen in as Tony walked through an excellent case study of an integration project linking a custom FileMaker application with New Millennium’s Genesis Accounting System and World Sync’s SyncDek. He focused on three key factors for a successful project: process, controls and return on investment (ROI). These factors influenced the order in which modules were developed and provided justification for choosing certain applications over others.
